The Poppy Club at St Mary’s Church in Hemyock is proving popular.

The first monthly meeting was held in February and by the second hundreds of poppies had been knitted or crocheted.

The poppies, which will be a major part of the Remembrance Sunday commemoration in the village, are in four different colours, the best known being red, representing remembrance and hope.

The purple poppy remembers all the animals, in particular horses, lost in war with the African, Black and Caribbean communities remembered with the black flower. The white poppy founded in 1933 has become more evident in recent years and promotes peace.

The Poppy Club meets on the third Thursday of each month from 10am-noon and anyone interested in helping is welcome to join them. Further details from David on 07773 579809
