OYEZ, oyez, final preparations were being put in place this week as Wellington Town Council planned for its official Christmas lights switch-on event on Saturday (November 25).
The council has a new set of lights in white and gold colours this year which will be turned on at 6 pm.
Throughout the day there will also be a Christmas produce market, starting at 9 am, with High Street closed to traffic.
Children’s entertainment and singing by local schools’ choirs will start at 12 noon.
And Father Christmas will be in a grotto provided by the council outside the Royal Mail sorting office between 3 pm and 5.45 pm.
Town Crier Andrew Norris gave a public announcement on Thursday (November 23) next to the council’s Christmas tree in High Street encouraging families to visit the event.
This year, the council has also provided Christmas trees and coloured lights for Rockwell Green and Tonedale as it shares the festive spirit around the town.
A window wrap has been fitted in the former Fox and Sons estates agents office, in High Street, to advertise details of the switch-on event.
Parking in Wellington’s three town centre public car parks will be free all day on Saturday.
