A Turkish barber on Wellington’s High Street has lost one of its two “friendly” parakeets - which are known to customers and town residents.
Taji Turkish Barbers is well known for its two resident conure parakeets, Nervous and Kw-Kw, who roam free in the shop or sit in their cage in the shop’s window.
One of the birds, Kw-Kw - who is roughly one year and four months old – flew out of the shop and landed on the roof of the House of Cake Building on Friday, May 9.

The owner of Taji Turkish Barbers, Zanko, said he put Nervous out in his cage on top of the bus stop on Wellington’s High Street at around 2pm, to try and encourage Kw-Kw to return, but the bird later flew off and hasn’t been seen since.
Zanko said: “He is really friendly. I’d go out with him everywhere and as soon as I would come into the shop in the morning, he would jump on my shoulder to welcome me.
“I think he will be getting hungry as he is not used to finding food for himself, and I hope then he might come back.”
Kw-Kw’s friend, Nervous, hasn’t been acting the same, says Zanko. He says that the bird has lost his energy and seems sad alone in the shop.
He added: “If I don’t find him in one week, I think I will have to find another friend for Nervous.”

Zanko is asking that anyone who spots the small parakeet, with a green back and yellow neck, gets in contact with him.
Taji Turkish Babers was first established in Exeter in 1996 and has since operated in Barnstaple and Wellington. The High Street shop is open from 9am until 6pm from Monday to Friday, with varied weekend hours.
