The Motorway was shut this morning between junctions 26 and 27 while emergency services worked at the scene.
The southbound carriageway has since reopened but police say the northbound carriageway will remain closed until the afternoon.
Police described the deceased as a 'male pedestrian' and said he was confirmed dead at the scene.
