A NEW sign in Wellington town centre has been quickly removed after residents pointed out it had been misspelled.

Somerset Council installed a new sign just off the High Street to mark Cubitt’s Place, after the previous sign was torn down.

But the new sign erroneously included an extra ‘B’ and failed to include a comma, resulting in signs at either end of the lane with different spellings.

After the issue was brought to the attention of Somerset Council, they pledged the sign would be corrected ‘as soon as possible.’

By Monday, March 11, the misspelled sign had been unmounted from the wall between the Nook and Cranny and Chandni Chowk, with white spray painted X’s left behind to mark the spot.

The signs were first installed in 2017, which also marked the first time to alleyway had been officially named and signposted.
