ABOUT 80 Beech Grove Primary School, Wellington, families gathered in the playground to celebrate May Day.

Every class performed a song or dance to family and friends. Afterwards the Friends of Beech Grove served scones and cream, cake and refreshments.

The school also held a cake competition based around May the Force Be With You and the winner of the large cake competition was Year 6 pupil Nikkita with R2D2.

The team of Year 6 Entrepreneurs ran a raffle for a hamper they had donated items for, raising £100 for their school project.

A school spokesperson said: “Altogether it made an excellent community afternoon.”
