BOVIS Homes will be hosting an informal drop-in event to update residents on the controversial Bagley Road development in Rockwell Green today (July 31).

Gladman’s were granted outline planning permission to build 205 homes there but sold the site to Bovis Homes earlier this year.

The plans remain broadly in line with the consented scheme - 205 homes with 51 affordable, green open space and play areas, and access from Exeter Road.  The reserved matters application will focus on the detailed design.

The informal drop in event will be held at Rockwell Green Christian Centre (TA21 9BZ) today from 4pm to 7:30pm.

If you are unable to make the event or would like further information, contact Tom Selway on: 07342 039 444 (during office hour) or by email at: [email protected]

l Wellington Town Council originally recommended the plan for the development at Bagley Road be opposed in February, 2017, for reasons including ‘that the site did not fall within the core strategy for development, an adequate supply of allocated building land already existed in Wellington, and that the area did not have sufficient infrastructure to support the scheme.’

However, planners turned down the application and fought the developers’ appeal but Taunton Deane Council did a U-turn at a planning inquiry last July and told the inspector they were withdrawing their objections and that the proposals could proceed.

Consequently, Wellington Town Council told the borough council it needed to sort out its planning policies quickly before large developers moved in with more ‘predatory’ housing schemes for the two.
