STAFF at a butchers at a Rumwell Farm Shop are celebrating after being awarded two silver awards for their sausages.

The shop, on the A38 between Wellington and Taunton, picked up the accolades at the South West Winter Fair for its traditional pork sausages and its pork, basil and tomato variety.

Trevor Stark, butchery manager at the farm shop, said: “The South West Sausage Championship forms part of the South West Winter Fair, which was founded in 2007.

“This was the first year we have entered and we were delighted to receive two silver awards for two of our sausage varieties.

“Our sausages are all made at the butchery counter with our own free range, home-reared pork, reared on our family farm just four miles away.

“As well as these two varieties of sausages we also offer 14 others including gluten-free sausages, our popular cracked black pepper, pork sausages and our Cumberland sausages.”

Trevor has worked in the butchery department for 11 years and his main role is to handle the preparation of the meat for display and overseeing the day-to-day running of the department. He also has an NVQ Level 2 in meat processing. The South West Winter Fair was held at Sedgemoor Auction Centre in North Petherton. In addition to haltered cattle, there were classes for unhaltered cattle, lambs, pigs, lamb carcases and dressed poultry. It is the major Christmas Primestock Show for the West Country.
