PLANS to turn a bungalow into a house were turned down by Wellington Town Council at its January meeting after Taunton Deane planning officer Matthew Bale described it as ‘a step too far’.
Using its delegated powers, the town council rejected Mrs S. Stone’s application to replace a garage with a single-storey side extension, replace a conservatory with a two-storey side extension, build a single-storey front extension and create a first floor at an existing bungalow at 26 Blackmoor Road, Wellington.
Mr Bale said that essentially it was creating a two-storey building out of a single-storey bungalow. It would be an incongruous addition to the street scene of largely bungalows, would detract from the character and visual amenity of the area and the design was not pretty either – windows half in the room and half in the roof.
Four letters of objection had been received from neighbours on the grounds of overlooking, loss of light and overbearing but the planners did not consider it would cause any significant loss of privacy to neighbouring gardens.
