A BLACKDOWN Hills village is set to become one of the newest members of the 20mph traffic club after Somerset Council advertised proposed changes to speed limits across the county.

It follows concerns expressed by parish councillors in many areas at the numbers of vehicles they felt were travelling too fast through village streets.

A total of 15 communities will have 20 mph speed zones introduced this year, including Bishopswood.

Representations or objections can be made by email to the council by April 9.

The draft order and maps showing the roads involved can be seen at www.somerset.gov.uk/TRO.

Bishopswood roads which will be covered by the new 20 mph restrictions are Royston Road, Whatley Road, Bodleys Lane, Woodcroft Meadows, and Coronation Lane.

Otterford Parish Council, which covers Bishopswood, has also several times pushed for a 40 mph limit to be imposed in Blackdown Hill, near the Holman Clavel public house.
