BLUEGRASS heroes the Thunderbridge Bluegrass Band are set to play again at Clayhidon village hall.
They performed there earlier this year and are returning as part of their new album gig series on Friday, October 14.
Band front man Nick Girone-Maddocks said: “Some brilliant bands have played the village hall over the years, both homegrown and international. To be part of that group of bands is a real thrill. “The locals really know how to have a good time and it’s great that they support the gigs they way they do. They do their bit to keep live music happening.”
The band, formed in 2005, are currently promoting their sixth album, entitled ‘Blue’. “There’s all sorts of bluegrass on this latest CD – some trad, some crossover,” said Nick. “There’s also some folk and blues and a good murder ballad – all the stuff an album should have!”
The 12 self-penned songs form a significant part of the current show but the band will not be forgetting their roots. “Many who have seen us play before remember some of the earlier songs which have featured on the previous albums. It’s great to write these songs and then get them requested, some of them more than ten years on since we first played them. There are so many favourites, it’s natural to play some of them at our live shows,” said Nick, who does most of the writing.
Bluegrass music has gained great popularity over the years, thanks to exposure through such media as the film Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?. Thunderbridge’s gig – performed with acoustic fiddle, banjo, guitar and double bass, also features tight four-part harmony singing, all around a single microphone.
