YOUNG skateboarders have been promoting the skate park at Wellington sports centre.

They want younger children to use the facility and provided equipment for them to have a go at a recent event.

The skateboarders would also like the metal ramps at the skate park replaced with concrete ones, like the other ramps in the park.

Tom Disney, 15, of Springfield Road, Wellington, said: “We are trying to make kids feel welcome – and trying to gain the council’s attention about the ramps.”

The skateboarders also had a bucket collection for donations towards skate park improvements.

Tom says he and his friends go to the skate park every day when the weather is dry and sweep up at weekends.

As well as skateboarders the skate park is used by youngsters with BMX bikes, rollerblades and scooters.
