WELLINGTON Bowling Club’s clubhouse was packed when Cleverley Everley came to sing on St George’s Day, writes Martin Speakman.
Not a spare seat could be found at the club which was decked out with the red and white St George’s Day flags when the local pair came to sing the famous Everley Brothers songs.
Stan and Clinton Rogers did not look much like Phil and Don but in every other way you could not tell them apart. Their sound was pure and brilliant Everley.
Everyone enjoyed a magical musical experience which was followed by a well prepared meal to add to a wonderful evening. Many members came up trumps by dressing up for the event.
The evening was organised by Brenda Manning with great support from her social committee members who helped in all sorts of ways, particularly hanging up the bunting and balloons before the start .
Brenda thanked everyone for all their support and particularly Teresa Hawkins for helping with the food preparation, John Lister behind the bar, Diane Troake for running the raffle and Su and Nick Channon for tidying and washing up.
Brenda said it was wonderful to work with so many people who were willing to give their time and said it was a joy to be part
of such a friendly and cheerful team of helpers.
