TWO young neighbours in Wellington have raised more than £300 to support an Australian charity which treats animals injured in the country’s bushfires.
Jake Baurns and Oscar Vincent, both aged eight years, and both pupils of Wellesley Park Primary School, held a toy sale outside their homes in Aspin Road.
They had the idea after watching on television news how the devastating Australian bushfires had killed millions of animals and injured many more.
They were particularly impressed by coverage of an animal hospital, in Port Macquarie, New South Wales, and decided it should be the recipient of funds raised.

Jake’s mother, Alice Burns, said: “Jake and Oscar are so grateful for all the support they have received from the great people who live on the estate.
“There was some amazing feedback on Facebook with hundreds of likes and responses, and even somebody who actually lives in Port Macquarie and wants to post the boys a postcard from the hospital they have been fund-raising for.”
