DESPITE having to cancel the car boot and table top sale, the charity day at the Barley Mow in Rockwell Green on Saturday was described as ‘brilliant’ by landlady Lorraine Taylor.

One of the highlights was the ‘gunging’ of the landlord Mark Taylor, which proved to be quite messy.

Gareth Martin (pictured) had his 15-inch locks shaved for The Little Princess Trust, which provides real-hair wigs for youngsters having cancer treatment or who have lost their hair for other reasons.

“We thought it was going to be a disaster – but in the end it was brilliant,” said Lorraine. “It began quietly and just got busier and busier.”

The event, which raised more than £1,600 for the Trust, ended with a late karaoke and disco. It also included a raffle and auction.
