The Royal British Legion celebrates its centenary in June and the search is on for photos of Wellington branch taken during its early existence.

The Legion was founded to foster friendships formed by all service-personal who served in the war and provide assistance to those injured both physically and mentally as well as supporting their families.

In Wellington, a branch was established in 1921 and shortly afterwards a club opened in White Hart Lane, in premises that are now the Community Centre, but was closed in the early 1950s.

President Michael Rose said: “We have been asked by the county authorities if we could provide photographs of any Legion events during this period.

“Unfortunately, we do not hold any and would like to hear from anyone who may have such photographs and also able to talk about the use of the club.”

Anyone who has photographs is asked to either send them to the chairman, Bob Trickey, at 5 Gill Allen Court, Wellington, or the acting secretary Scott Godwin, 12 Jurston Lane, Wellington.

Sara is town’s new bobbie on the beat

WELLINGTON has a new bobbie on the beat – PC Sara Norman.

Sgt Dan Bishop told members of Wellington Town Council at their latest meeting, held via Zoom video conferencing technology, that PC Norman had joined the policing team to replace PC Rob Brown who had left for pastures new.

“PC Norman is an officer with many years of policing experience under her belt and who has previously worked within neighbourhood policing,” he said.

“I’m sure Sara will make an excellent addition to the team and will quickly become familiar to the town council and members of the public in Wellington, too.”
