A mystery surrounding a 'missing' Wellington postbox has been solved.

The postbox in Bulford, at the entrance to the South Street car park, 'disappeared' two weeks ago, leaving some residents perplexed.

The Royal Mail postbox had been seen prior to its removal with red and white tape blocking the entrance slat, before it disappeared altogether.

The Wellington Weekly has now learned the postbox was removed over health and safety fears. A spokesperson for the Royal Mail told the Wellington Weekly:

"I’m afraid the post box has been deemed a health and safety issue due to rusted hinges that are not replaceable.

"We have advised elderly residents in Dukes Court that the postie for the area has created a spot in the communal area for residents to leave post. He will collect it every day when he visits"

The next nearest postbox to residents will be in the town centre or at Wellesley Park.

A map of the town's postboxes can be found at the Royal Mail website.
