A DISPLAY of old maps and aerial views of Wellington and its nearby villages attracted more than 90 visitors to the town’s community centre last Saturday morning.

It was arranged by Wellington Local History and Museum Society because there was not enough room in the museum building to put them on show.

Museum society chairman Paddy Gray said he was delighted with the response, which far exceeded his expectations.

Mr Gray said the society was now considering holding a second event, probably next year, which would include some different maps and views and would take into account some of the suggestions made by this year’s visitors.

More than 50 maps were on show, dating from the early 19th century through to today.

Saturday’s event raised more than £50 in donations for the society and also saw several people encouraged to become members of the society.
