THE emergency services were called to a car fire in North Street, Wellington, early on Friday evening.

One fire appliance from Wellington attended from the nearby station and the fire was put out using one hosereel.
Eyewitness Denise Davidson said: “The man holding the ‘road closed’ sign (pictured) was amazing the way he jumped into action to clear the traffic and place the sign out, which I think luckily was at the side of the road.”
The fire set off alarms in The Iron Duke on the corner of North Street and Fore Street and dozens of patrons had to evacuate the pub.
