FIREFIGHTERS were called to a property in Pyles Thorne Lane, Wellington, after an alarm was reported going off. The person who reported the fire said windows inside the property were blackened and believed a candle was alight inside.

Two fire engines from Wellington attended the incident last Tuesday (October 3) at 5.30pm and crews confirmed a fire in a front bedroom and that the occupants were not home. They forced entry into the property and investigated with two breathing apparatus, a thermal imaging camera and a hosereel jet.

The fire was caused by a candle being left unattended and damage was confined to the candle and a small amount of smoke damage to a nearby blind.
