THE Care Quality Commission (CQC) has given an overall ‘Outstanding’ rating to a Wellington-based care home.
Chelston Park and Gardens nursing and dementia homes received ‘Outstanding’ in ‘Caring’ and ‘Well-led’, and ‘Good’ for ‘Safe’, ‘Effective’ and ‘Responsive’, the criteria used to grade homes.
Home manager Jo Girdler praised the efforts of staff saying she was proud of their high standards of care, professionalism, commitment and hard work.
She added: “Success in a care home is all about the staff group working well together and with other care professionals to deliver the best services.”
The report, available on the CQC website, details feedback from residents, their families and friends, and highlights the care and attention given to residents ‘by a staff team who were happy in their work and who were committed to ensuring people received the best possible care’.
The two-day inspection also took into account the opinions of health-care professionals and the local community.
Simona Ionita, registered manager at Chelston Park, highlighted the importance of these relationships in the community. She said: “We receive fantastic support from the local GPs, district nurses and community psychiatric nurses, Somerset Adult Social Care, the Clinical Commissioning Group as well as our local community in Wellington.”
Out of 251 care homes in the Taunton area only seven have an overall rating of ‘Outstanding’. Mrs Girdler added: “Very few care providers are rated as ‘Outstanding’ by CQC and it is a testament to everyone’s hard work that Chelston has been recognised. It makes it all worthwhile to know we are providing an outstanding service and have our efforts formally recognised.
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our residents, families, friends, our team and local health and social care teams for their support which has made this possible.
“We are committed to maintaining and improving standards and look forward to celebrating with our residents, staff and visitors.”
Chelston Park and Chelston Gardens have accommodation for up to 86 older people with various health and care support needs. More information about their services is available on their websites www.chelstonpark.co.uk and www.chelstongardens.co.uk
