SOME top names in international cricket spent the day at Wellington School on Sunday of last week.
The Celebrity Lashings All-Star team ran masterclasses for pupils, entertained 200 guests over lunch and played the School First XI cricket team in a match in the afternoon.
Wellington School’s own Director of Sport and Wellbeing, Steffan Jones, himself an ex-Somerset cricketer, bowled an over while the school’s Head of Girls Cricket and ex-England Ladies Captain Caroline Foster showed off her batting skills.
The celebrities won by a narrow margin but the school team proved to be worthy opponents.
“It was a fabulous, fun-packed day and a superb opportunity for our own team to pit themselves against some of the top cricketers in the world,” said Jones afterwards.
“We were delighted to welcome the Lashings’ team and see so many supporters turn out to enjoy the lunch and watch the game – there was a really carnival atmosphere to the day,” he added.
