A CHARITY that delivers aid to Eastern Europe has thanked the people of Wellington for supporting its cause.

Christian Response to Eastern Europe is a charity that provides humanitarian aid and financial support to communities in Moldova and Ukraine.

Its work includes using donations to provide support to soup kitchens and elderly care services, provide financial assistance to families in need, and organise deliveries of essential items to the two countries.

The charity also holds an annual Christmas shoebox appeal, providing children and adults alike with clothes, toys, sweets and even basic toiletries when they otherwise might go without.

While Christian Response to Eastern Europe thanks every individual who have donated items to be sent to Moldova and Ukraine, four groups were highlighted for their support.

These groups are Wellington Methodist Church, Bulford Group, Wellington Inner Wheel and The Pop Up shop, ran by Wellington Town Council.

A spokesperson for Christian Response to Eastern Europe said: “There are also a number of individuals who act as a drop off point within the town, in particular Madge, Sue, Beryl and Pat who like us often find themselves almost overwhelmed by people’s generosity.

“Others have made financial donations towards fuel costs and sadly the passing of a loved one has seen family make contributions of items.

“Whether you have donated a flannel, a toy, a bike, fold up bed for a Ukrainian Field Hospital or one of the other numerous items Christian Response to Eastern Europe transport every item is valued.

“Thanks also to the local press , both paper and digital who have featured a number of reports. Thank you everyone.”

The charity are currently holding their annual Christmas shoebox appeal, and are asking for gifts intended for people of any age to be donated.

The deadline for donations is Friday, November 14.
