URGENT action is to be taken to improve the standard of toilet facilities at Wellington Cemetery following complaints.
Kevin Winter was visiting his parents’ graves at the cemetery in Rockwell Green when he went to the toilets to wash his hands – but he was disgusted at what he found.
“I’d been taking old flowers off the graves and they were a bit rotten and smelly so I wanted to wash my hands,” he told the WWN.
“But when I went into the toilets I was shocked. There was no hot water, no soap and if I’d wanted to have gone to the toilet there was no loo paper either.

Opinion: Five pence sprouts are great, but spare a thought for your high street“It wasn’t a very pleasing sight to be honest. Some people do get caught short and when you have to go you have to go but you expect reasonable facilities.
“I don’t know what had been going on in there but it was all muddy and horrible.”
Mr Winter, of Lower Foxmoor Road, Rockwell Green, said he eventually washed his hands on the outside cold water tap generally used by people to fill cans for watering flowers.
The WWN took Mr Winter’s complaints to Taunton Deane Borough Council, which is responsible for the cemetery, and it was quick to apologise.
Cllr Patrick Berry, the council’s executive spokesman for environmental services, said the authority had not directly ‘received any negative feedback regarding the public convenience’ at Wellington Cemetery.
But he added: “We can only apologise that the standard we expect from our facilities was not met.
“Staff will clean and restock this facility immediately and investigate the issue with the water temperature, although any repairs needed will take place after the Easter weekend.
“Should members of the public find any issue with this lavatory in future they can report it directly to the cemetery and crematorium office on 01823 284811 where we can act with more immediacy.”
