RESIDENTS living in Parklands Road and Howard Road in Wellington are worried this Oak tree, thought to be nearly 200 years old, may be cut down when the new primary school in Longworth Farm is built.
The tree lies within the cordoned off area of the proposed Isambard Kingdom Brunel Primary School.
One resident said: “It would be such a shame if they remove the tree. At the moment we have not been told whether it will come down or not.”
The school will be run by the Castle Partnership Trust, which also runs The Castle School in Taunton.
The land was reserved for a primary school under a s.106 agreement when the development of houses was given approval.
WWN sports reporter Barry Knott is also concerned about a public right of way lane running at the back of Parklands which is now completely overgrown.
“As kids we used the lane constantly to get down to The Canal,” he said.” Developers need to be more aware of the damage they are doing to the countryside.”
