THE county council has confirmed that the M5 Junction 26 will remain closed until September 30, despite original plans stating works to the roundabout and link road would be complete by the middle of the month.
While Somerset Council stated the works would take “around 14 weeks” to finish in mid to late September, official road closure listings detailed the roads would be closed from June 15 until September 16, as reported by the Wellington Weekly News.
Road signage, erected after the start of the works, indicated the same end date but was later removed. Overhead gantry signs now state that the works will be completed by September 30.
On road management site, Causeway one.network – used by Somerset Council, and available for the public to view on their website – official dates are still listed as June 15 until September 16.
There has been no indication that Sawyers Hill – the road to West Buckland – will be closed beyond October 3, as previously stated.
A spokesperson for Somerset Council said: “There has been some confusion generated by some of the overhead gantry signs on the M5.
“However we understand this has now been corrected and is in line with the information we have provided since the outset, that the programme would run until late September.”
“We are currently on time and budget and will take every opportunity to beat the programme.”
In a Wellington Town Council meeting on Monday, August 4, public relations officer for the project, Syed Shah, told councillors that September 16 signage had since been removed as they did not want to put a specific date on the project finishing.
The public relations officer added that the work was scheduled to be completed by the end of September, but hinted that it could be “early or the middle” of September.
