A PUBLIC survey is to be held to see if people would support a Wellington Day being held to celebrate the town.
Wellington Town Council’s events working group met recently and discussed possible ideas such as a trade fair involving local businesses, a family fun day, a Medieval Day and a street fair.
It is understood that on August 16, 1215, the Royal Charter gave Wellington its first market town status and Cllr John Thorne has suggested that a possible Wellington Day could be held around that date.
But councillors need to know first if there would be any support from the public for a special Wellington Day.
The council’s economic development committee met on June 11 and supported the idea of a survey.
