Wellington Town Councillors are to discuss paying themselves to take a trip to watch a carnival in Portugal next February.
Councillors will explore whether taxpayer money should be used to fund the trip to Wellington's twin town of Torres Vedras.
They have been invited by the Municipality of Torres Vedras to join a Wellington Twinning Association group to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the twinning arrangement.
Up to 10 twinners and town councillors could embark on the visit, which will be discussed at an upcoming council committee meeting, to be held on Tuesday, August 15.
If approved, the payments could include covering some or even all of the councillors' travel expenses associated the trip.
The cost of flying a group of 10 from Bristol to Lisbon airport could exceed £2,000, even using a budget airline.
There is precedent for funding twinning trips, after then-Mayor of Wellington Cllr Janet Lloyd's airfare of £361.94 was paid so she could attend the 2020 carnival in Torres Vedras in her capacity as an official.
