TALENTED Year 8 and 9 Language students at Court Fields School in Wellington have taken part in a ’Russian Masterclass’ with Irena Hubble-Brezowski from Bridgwater College.
Zaira Cordero, one of the specially chosen participants, said: “The Russian lesson was an amazing experience! Irena taught us to introduce ourselves, how to write our names using the Cyrillic alphabet – mine is ?a?pa A??e?a – and to count to ten while using actions to help memorise the words.
“We also learned some of the history, geography and culture of Russia. I really enjoyed learning how to speak and write in Russian – it was great fun and I hope that others enjoyed it as much as I did!”
Head of Modern Languages Neil Piper added: “It is crucial that students understand the importance of languages in today’s global society – language learning is an essential life skill, which can lead to greatly increased opportunities for young people.
“We hope that exciting and engaging sessions like this will inspire our learners to develop their language skills.”
The Faculty hopes to continue to work with Bridgwater College in future and is already planning an Italian session for later this year.
