STUDENTS at Court Fields in Wellington have been carrying out speed checks outside the school as part of Road Safety Week.

Groups of Year 7 youngsters worked with the local Police and PCSO team to carry out the checks and learn more about their purpose after a parent raised concerns about speeding. They learned about equipment used and the fines and sanctions that can be handed out to speeders.

Students said they hoped members of the local community would support sticking to the speed limit, especially as the area is used by so many pedestrians.

Head of Year 7 Mrs Westwood said “Students found it so interesting to know more about how to prevent speeding and enjoyed using the equipment to raise awareness of the speed limits in our area.”
