WELLINGTON Town Council agreed grants totalling just over £6,000 at its monthly meeting.

Wellington Cricket Club will receive £1,050 for ‘assistance in connection with its very successful series of winter coaching sessions for young people in the area’.

Reminiscence Learning will receive £2,000. Councillors were told that the organisation had ‘made great progress locally in the area of reminiscence therapy through activity sessions, raising awareness of the impact of dementia on individuals and communities and providing training opportunities’.

The application related specifically to a proposal to extend its successful Community Programme in Wellington.

Wellington Choral Society will receive £2,997.36 to be ‘used as a contribution towards the cost of modifying its staging equipment’.

After many years of having to hire expensive staging equipment the society had purchased pre-used staging from another society.

This staging could now be used in their concerts but while having the capacity to hold everyone it required some modification.

The council’s committee recommended the grant be made available in recognition of the efforts the society made to make choral music available to all and to use it to promote the town.

Friends of Wellington Library will receive £140 to cover the cost of public liability insurance.
