TORRENTIAL rain hit the opening of the annual Uffculme Show and Country Fayre on Sunday (August 31), which was held at Bridwell Park.

But by the afternoon show visitors were basking under blue skies as a torrent of entertainment and activities kept them busy.

It was the first year the event had been run by a new volunteer committee who took over from Exe Valley Rotary after many years.

Uffculme Show Association (USA) chairman Chris Coopey said: “Our main ring and music festival performers were superb and with a little jiggery pokery everything fitted together, so a big thank you to all our entertainers.

“It was the Uffculme Show Association’s first show but we managed to climb the knowledge mountain and have learnt some great lessons.

“We will take on board all the positive comments we see and learn from the very few concerns.

“A massive thank you to the USA committee who have worked like Trojans to make the show happen.

“Similarity, a big thank you to the volunteers who have played such an important part in putting the show on by volunteering for shifts and for taking it down.

“Your 2025 committee were Becky Campbell, Adrian Cheetham, Jim Clancy, Chris Coopey, Tony Lindsell, Gordon Milne, Martin King, Tara King, Colin Ward.”

Award-winning Diamond Twirlers Majorettes started the entertainment in the main ring and one act followed another as visitors were treated to a birds pf prey display by North Devon Falconry, Higher Beings circus acts, an English Civil War battle re-enactment, a vintage tractor parade and slowest tractor race, and the world-famous Red Barrows display team.

A fun dog show was held in the afternoon, and there was also ferret racing, and a vintage and classic car display.

Mr Coopey said the proceeds would as usual be used to support local charitable and community causes.
