THE past-chairman of Somerset County Council, Nigel Taylor, died last week, less than three months since he said an emotional farewell to councillors in February.

He was diagnosed with cancer 18 months ago and in February of this year attended briefly to open a full county council meeting in Bridgwater where he announced the cancer had spread and he believed he had only weeks left to live.

He had represented Cheddar since 2017 and was also chairman of the Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty management partnership.
