TWO metal detectorists have unearthed more than 200 Roman coins on farmland in Bishops Lydeard.

Fifteen coins found by Paul Saxton and Jason Bridges, dating from 253AD to 274AD, have been declared treasure and are likely to be bought by the Museum of Somerset.

A treasure inquest in Taunton heard that 173 of the coins were found in one haul, while the others had been lost separately. Some of the coins were lead forgeries.

A number of fragments of Roman pottery was also discovered at the site during the find in January 2017.
