WELLINGTON’S football manager Clive Jones has strengthened his first team squad by signing Glen Wright.
The 25-year-old midfielder was Player of the Year last season for Dorking who play in Division One of the Combined Counties League.
He has just moved to the area with his job and has already been training with the Toolstation League club at the Playing Field.
“I’ve been very impressed with him in training,” said Jones. “It will be very interesting to see how he plays in friendlies.”
Wellington’s first pre-season warm-up game is away to Crediton on Saturday week (July 23).
“The side has been coming together quite nicely, although I still have to find a new goalkeeper,” added Jones, who starts his second full season in charge, having previously spent 15 successful years at Willand.
Jones has already signed the players he wants from last season and has added to the squad during the summer.
The Bryant boys are back on board and Jones has a strong centre-back pairing in Matt Ellis and Kae Fisher.
Meanwhile, Wellington have announced changes in their management set-up for the new season.
Paul Sellick has stepped down as boss of Wellington Reserves because of work commitments.
“I simply don’t have enough time to devote to the job,” said Sellick yesterday.
“I would like to thank everyone at the club for the support they have given me while I have been running the side.”
He is being replaced by Chris May and Dave Darch who are now in place while Ben Welch will continue running the Third team.
Both the Reserves and Thirds play in the Devon and Exeter League while the first team will continue to play in Division One of the Toolstation League, which will include for the first time Bishops Lydeard who have a fine set-up. They played in the Somerset County League last winter.
This will provide two eagerly awaited derby matches for Wellington.
