DOUBLE Olympic silver medalist Jazz Carlin visited pupils at Wellesley Park Primary School on Wednesday, October 22.
The Team GB swimmer delivered a special assembly after year four pupil Nancy Bull won a national competition to design a swim hat, which was inspired by the theme of ‘draw what you love most about getting in the pool’.
The competition was run by Everyone Active, which runs Wellington Sports Centre among its five leisure centres in Somerset operated in partnership with Somerset Council.
The prize saw Carlin talk to pupils about her swimming career and her journey to becoming an Olympian, also answering questions from children.
Later in the morning, a swim session was staged at Wellington Sports Centre which was led by Everyone Active’s swim teachers and supported by Jazz.
There were 24 children from year four at Wellesley Park Primary School that took part in the session.
Nancy’s winning design has been made into a selection of swimming hats, which were handed out to staff and pupils on the day.
Gary Beasley, Everyone Active’s general manager at Wellington Sports Centre, said: “It was fantastic for the children to enjoy a brilliant assembly given by Jazz and for her to come and watch the swim session at Wellington Sports Centre as well.
“She did an amazing job of inspiring children from our local community and we’d like to send a big thanks to her for coming along. A special well done goes to Nancy for a brilliant design, which won Wellesley Park Primary School the prize.”
During her career, Jazz Carlin won silver medals in the 400m and 800m freestyle swimming events at the 2016 Rio Olympics. On top of those achievements, she was also able to win gold medals at the Commonwealth Games and the European Championships.
