CHURCHSTANTON Primary School has achieved the School Games Gold Mark Award for the 2018/19 academic year.

The Youth Trust delivers the Government-led scheme which aims to keep competitive sport at the heart of schools.

The school, led by higher level teaching assistant Tara Adams, has worked hard to provide sporting opportunities for pupils including a wide variety of after-school activities such as Tae kwon do, netball, gymnastics and country dancing.

Pupils have also taken part in intra-house competitions in rounders, dance and bench ball, as well as inter-school competitions in partnership with Somerset Activity and Sports Partnership.

Headteacher Claire Halstead said: “We are delighted and proud to have received this award and it is the result of the dedication and hard work of Mrs Adams.

“She has been the driving force behind this achievement and the health and well-being of our young people have been improved because of the amazing array of opportunities she organises for our children.”
