This year sees the return of the ever-popular Summer Reading Challenge with a slight twist – a new digital platform called the ‘Silly Squad’ will offer lots of fun and adventures to keep children aged four to 11 years old entertained.

The reading challenge will only be available online in 2020 but will still aim to provide children with the educational value and ‘fun factor’ it has had in previous years.

The ‘Silly Squad’ are a team of animal friends who love to go on adventures and read funny books. This new challenge will allow children to take control of their reading and be rewarded online for their progress.

Children will play an online game to win rewards and create their own reading profile. This will allow them to set reading goals, review books and enjoy a safe forum to chat with friends. There will also be a section where users can download and print fun activities to complete over the summer.

To get involved, create a reading profile at www.sillysquad.org.uk Somerset Libraries will be releasing local weekly activities from Saturday, July 11, which families can also enjoy from the comfort of their own homes
