THE DISNEY classic Beauty and the Beast is set to be live on stage at the Wellington Arts Centre next week.

A Genesis Youth Theatre Group production, the upcoming musical will run from Wednesday, July 9, until Saturday, July 12.

Director of the show, Evie Warwick said: “It’s definitely been chaotic at times, but I couldn’t be prouder of how far everyone has come.

“I hope each and every one of them knows just how talented and amazing they are.

“Watching this show come together has been truly magical.”

The classic story tells the tale of a young woman named Belle (Morwenna Fuller) who is seen as odd by the rest of the citizens in her small town. Following the disappearance of her father, Belle finds herself trapped in an enchanted castle under the control of a hideous beast (Luc Usher-Clark).

The play’s picture-perfect protagonists are complemented by the enthusiasm of Belle’s father Maurice, played by Robin Hill, and Rochan Gibson Patel’s Gaston. The two are visibly dedicated to their craft and give their all to each and every song and dance.

Musical Director and Choreographer Emily Sellick works wonders on the cast, bringing out the boisterous in Lucy Tooze’s LeFou, and the endearing nature of Harriet Grove’s appropriately French Lumiére.

The cast’s dedication to perfecting the performance is palpable, from the energetic musical scenes to the quintessential French spirit. The show is a testament to the work of Genesis, supporting and empowering young creatives.

Rochan Gibson Patel says he is considering a future in acting, and Luc Usher-Clark hopes to participate in many Arts Centre shows to come.
