THE Somerset Branch of CAMRA (The Campaign for Real Ale) has launched its 2025 Pub Trail, featuring five pubs in the Wellington area.

The trail began on Saturday, July 19 and will run until Saturday, September 13.

There are fifty pubs involved in the trail, including Appley’s Globe Inn, the White Horse Inn in Bradford-on-Tone, the Queen’s Arms, Pitminster, the New Inn, Halse, and the Bear Inn, Wiveliscombe.

The trail’s reach even extends to Wedmore, Withypool on Exmoor, and Crewkerne.

Despite the overall spread, many of the pubs aren’t that far apart and Somerset CAMRA say that even if only five or six houses are visited “the Trail offers a chance to make new discoveries and meet new people, an important part of life in these increasingly screen-bound times.”

At each pub, trail participants can pick up a leaflet to be stamped at each of the premises visited. Anyone who visits 20 of the pubs will receive a t-shirt commemorating this year’s trail and any dedicated traveller who manages 40 will receive the shirt and be entered into a draw to win a meal for two, up to the value of £75, at one of the partaking inns. Last year, 122 Pub Trail Polo Shirts were won by participants.

A spokesperson for CAMRA said: “Despite members’ preference for cask conditioned beers, it is not necessary to drink a real ale to take part. It is the visit that counts and any drink will count including soft drinks and tea or coffee.”

Founded by four real ale enthusiasts back in 1971, CAMRA is an independent, voluntary, consumer organisation representing beer drinkers and pub-goers across the UK.

Nationally the group boasts over 150,000 members, with a local Somerset branch membership of over 500.
