STEP back in time and discover the elegance, skill and heritage of traditional horse-drawn carriage driving with a unique behind-the-scenes experience Fenix Carriages in the Blackdown Hills with Mark Broadbent.

This special event on Wednesday July, 22 offers a rare opportunity to explore the fascinating world of historic carriages from beautifully preserved vehicles to the horses and craftsmanship that bring them to life.

A first session on heritage and history begins with a warm welcome and introduction to Fenix Carriages, followed by a guided tour and an engaging history talk on the evolution of horse-drawn transport.

There will be a chance to explore the on-site museum, view the impressive collection of carriages up close while learning about their design, purpose and the stories behind them, from everyday transport to grand ceremonial use.

A second session takes a look at the horses and harness with a driving demonstration and a chance to meet the magnificent horses that power these vehicles.

The team will also showcase the specialised harness and equipment used in carriage driving, explaining how each piece functions to ensure comfort, safety and communication between horse and driver.

Visitors will also be able to witness a live “harnessing” demonstration as the horses are carefully harnessed to a carriage, followed by a driving demonstration showcasing the skill, precision and partnership involved in this traditional discipline.

A spokesperson said: “Whether you are a horse enthusiast, history lover, or simply curious to experience something truly different, this immersive event offers a memorable glimpse into a bygone era where horsepower meant hooves, craftsmanship reigned supreme, and travel was as much about style as it was about function.

“Come along to witness living history in motion and enjoy an afternoon of heritage, horses and hands-on learning in the beautiful Devon countryside.”

The event takes place on Wednesday July 22 between 1pm - 4pm.
