THE annual Wivey Show is returning for its 109th iteration on August 16.

Taking place at the Rec in Wiveliscombe, the annual show will feature a range of classes, activities and entertainment from 12pm until 5pm.

All classes are free to enter and include the children’s category, with a sponsored £150 prize, floral art, fine art, photography and poetry, all of which have new classes including a short story class in the poetry section for budding authors.

There will also be roughly 100 stalls, with plenty of competitions and activities including new show additions, a bungee trampoline and a free skateboarding taster session at the skate park.

Music will be provided by Wivelele, the Wiveliscombe Town Band, the town Wind Band and High Park, plus newcomers, folk duo Fickle Friends.

Show Chairman, Kirsty Boutflower said: “The Show has really hit its stride now and it was heart-warming to see so many of the community come and support us last year.

“We really hope it is an event that the whole town will be proud of and we are continuing a tradition that started before both World Wars which is even more poignant given this is the 80th anniversary of VE day.

“The Show is such an important part of the community and last year we made a really good profit which meant we were able to give money back in the form of donations to the Rec, St Andrew’s Church, Rugby Club, Swimming Pool and 10 Radio.

“We are hoping that this year we will raise even more and spread the money further to other local good causes.”

Class entries close on Saturday, August 9, with more information available via the Wivey Show website.

Roadworks and a road closure on Church Street will be in place at the time of the show.
