FAMILY tributes were paid today to a 30-year-old man who died in a stabbing in Wellington last week.
Lewis Smith, who lived in Taunton, died on February 7, after he was found critically injured at a house in Jurston Lane with a single stab wound despite efforts by paramedics to save him.
In a statement released by police today his family said he was in the ‘prime of his life with so much to look forward to.’
The family said: “Lewis was a beautiful young man.
“He was a treasured son, brother, and nephew, loved so very, very much by us all.
“Our hearts have been completely broken by his tragic death.
“He was a shining light in the lives of so many people, always ready to enjoy life to the max.
“Despite many difficult times in his life, Lewis never gave up and always came back fighting, positive he could succeed.
“Rest in peace, Lewis. You will remain in our hearts forever and we will miss you every minute of every day.”
Lewis’ family asked for privacy as they tried to come to terms with the tragic events of the past week.
The statement was released as a man accused of murdering Mr Smith made a second appearance before a court today.
Nicholas Stutt, aged 33, of Laburnum Street, Taunton, appeared before Bristol Crown Court and was remanded in custody.
He will next appear at court on Wednesday, March 15, for a plea and case management hearing.
A provisional trial date has been set for August.
