WELLINGTON'S 122-year-old carnival could fold unless someone can be found to take over its organisation.

The threat to the town's biggest free show comes after carnival committee chairman Josephine Chave's decision to step down.

Mrs Chave, who is in her 70s and suffers from a heart condition, has been involved with the carnival for 32 years.

She told the WWN: "I feel terrible wanting to give it up. It's been my life."
