HUNDREDS of people packed themselves into the centre of Wiveliscombe on Friday (November 28) for the turning on of the town’s annual Christmas lights display.

A large Christmas tree in The Square was a centrepiece of the event, which saw marquees set up to offer traditional festive hospitality of mulled wine and cider and other treats, while many of the town’s shops stayed open until late.

Santa was the star of the show after he had earlier met local children and handed out presents in Wiveliscombe Community Centre.
Wiveliscombe Town Band and Wivey Community Wind Band played throughout the evening to add to the festive atmosphere, and the Town Hall was open for people to meet trustees and learn more about their ambitious restoration plans.
