THE boss of South West Computer Recycling at the Poole Industrial Estate outside Wellington said it was ‘devastating’ to see the business’s premises destroyed in a fire last week.

But managing director Sam Kingdon said the firm was still functioning with vans doing pick-ups in Southampton and Plymouth on Friday, the day after the fire.

The business, which employs nine staff, had been planning to move into other units on the seven-terrace industrial estate at the end of the month and still intends to do so. Sam said only one van and one fork lift truck were lost in the fire, the cause of which is ‘undetermined’.

He added: “It was devastating to see the building on fire but it’s just one of those things and we just have to move on. It will be a bumpy week while we get everything up and running again.”

The fire, reported at just after 6.30am on Thursday, spread to one unit next door

South West Computer Recycling was also using and to TLU Contracts on the other side of the premises.

Initially eight fire engines with an aerial ladder platform, a water carrier, an environmental protection unit, incident support unit, welfare unit and a command support vehicle attended.

Crews were damping down hotspots on Thursday afternoon which continued on Friday morning.

Sam added: “I would like to give massive thanks to Somerset Fire and Rescue and everyone who has supported us, including Mick Hurley of TLU Contracts.

“I would also like to apologise to anyone inconvenienced by the fire, especially through the road closures it caused.”
