THE main architect of the current pension landscape, Sir Steve Webb, the Coalition government pensions minister, has accepted an invitation to speak at a seminar in Taunton.

He is acknowledged as one of the leading experts in pension provision and is credited with reforming Britain’s creaking pension system and creating an environment fit for the 21st Century.

His achievements included the creation of the auto-enrolment pension system which gives every worker in the country the opportunity to sign up for pension and the pension freedoms that give people over 55 access to their pension pots.

The event has been organised by Lyn Financial Services, a local financial advice firm that has offices in Wellington, Taunton, Minehead, Lynton and Barnstaple and will take place on Friday, October 27, at 9am at The Castle Hotel. The morning, which is aimed at local solicitors and accountants and their clients, will conclude with a lunch.

Rob Isaacs, from Lyn, said: “We are delighted that we have been able to secure the services of such an eminent speaker as Steve Webb. Since leaving the government he has continued to lead the debate on the next steps for pension reform and this will be an excellent opportunity to look at how this important market will develop.”

There is on-going concern that people in Wellington and Taunton are not saving enough for their retirement. In addition to pension reform, there will also be advice on tax saving and inheritance tax from Octopus Investments, one of the leading investment groups in this field.

Although space is extremely limited, if anyone would like to attend this event they can apply by contacting Mr Isaacs on 01823 423800 or by emailing [email protected]
