Council believes that efforts should be made to bring the whole community together by offering local traders and groups the chance to have a free stall at a planned event later this year.
A street fair is being organised by the Wellington Carnival Committee and scheduled to be held on Saturday, September 25, and it was discussed at the council’s Wellington town centre committee last month.
But Cllr Marcus Barr, speaking at the council’s latest full monthly meeting, said that, although it was going to be a free event for the community to enjoy, he was disappointed that anyone wanting to have a stall at the fair would have to pay a fee.
“A free event to me is a free event for everyone,” he said and added that he had heard that a price for a stall was going up from £30 to £50.
I fear charging for a stall will put people off.”
