THE Oake Mini Day Centre is opening its doors next Wednesday (June 21) in a bid to attract new members and recruit more volunteers.
The friendship group is for people aged around 60-plus who live in the village and surrounding area and the open day is at the village hall from 10am-2pm.
The event will include singing by the Oake, Bradford and Nynehead Primary School choir, coffee and cake, and a bring-and-buy. Visitors will also have a chance to try out armchair curling, parachute play and ‘flexercise’, and support the raffle, which has great prizes including Sunday lunch for two at Oake Manor golf course and half-hour golf coaching session.
The results of the name the teddies competition will also be announced – the bears have been on display in Oake Post Office.
The mini day centre, which hopes to arrange speakers, guest artists and day trips, runs every Wednesday at Oake village hall between 10am-2.30pm. For more information phone volunteer Shelagh Spensley on 07732 010966.
