A MILVERTON couple who recently celebrated 10 years on the road are hitting another major milestone with the publication of a book on their adventures.

Karen Davies walked away from a successful career after experiencing burnout and has published a book reflecting on the choices that led her and her husband to take to the open road.

Known to many through the website Motoroaming.com she has spent the last 10 years travelling, most recently to Morocco and Montenegro, living in a motorhome with her husband, Myles.

Her book, ‘Heels, Wellies and Flip Flops’, explores not the roads travelled, but the questions, fears, and decisions which shaped their journey.

While the book may appear to be a travel memoir, Karen says it is really about something much deeper.

She said: “It all started when I realised that my people pleasing and perfectionism were making me ill.

“While life looked good from the outside, something was not right on the inside.

“The book explores the questions that followed and the choices that gradually led us towards a life that felt more authentic.

“We did not just wake up one day and decide to sell the house and everything we owned.

“It was a series of smaller choices and actions that led us to that point.

“The choice to be honest with ourselves.

“The choice to ask questions about what we truly wanted.

“The choice to sit down and have difficult conversations.

“The decision to acknowledge that something needed to change if we were going to recover from burnout.

“The choice to explore possibilities rather than dismiss them as impossible.”

Over the past decade, Karen and Myles have travelled extensively throughout Europe and around the world, documenting their experiences. and have helped thousands of people gain the confidence to travel independently.

Alongside practical travel advice, their work has increasingly focused on the themes of freedom, happiness, intentional living, and the courage to make meaningful change.

Heels, Wellies and Flip Flops’ reflects on these experiences through stories, observations and lessons learned along the way.

Karen hopes the book will resonate not only with travellers, but with anybody who has ever found themselves wondering whether life could be different.

She said: “Not everybody wants to live in a motorhome and travel - and that is not the point.

“The book is about recognising that we all have choices available to us, even if they are much smaller than we first imagine.

“The visible decisions were indeed big, there is no doubting that.

“Leaving careers, selling our home, and choosing a completely different way of living were huge decisions.

“But they sat on foundations built by many smaller choices, made one step at a time.

“As I reflect on the last decade, and particularly the years leading up to our big leap, it is clear that there was an accumulation of smaller choices.

“The moments where you gradually build the confidence to make the bigger decision.”

The book is available on Amazon in paperback and eBook formats.
